I'm looking for a motherboard that has integrated:

processor
sound (prefer onboard Sound Blaster)
video (prefer onboard Nvidia or ATI)
gigabit lan
the WORKS

(heck, I'd even like an integrated HD radio tuner if they offered that)

I'd like a CPU onboard that is equivalent to an
AMD Athlon 64 3500+

A number of years back, I had a mboard with onboard Sound Blaster 128, and
was really happy with it. Currently, I have a board with built in Via C7
CPU, but it is a bit on the slow side for video compression.

Can anyone recommend anything?

Price isn't much of an issue - I just want the convenience of knowing that
everything works together, and that if something goes bad, it is all covered
by warranty. Having all the drivers together for a single install doesn't hurt either, nor does only having one place to go for driver updates and such.

I would go to pricewatch and get a cpu-motherboard combo deal. You may have to install the cpu/heatsink, but you'll have to install the heatsink no matter what combo you get. Most come with a one year warranty.

I would just pay your vender to test everything before shipping. Some only charge an extra $10.

Check this out . All you need to do is add ram, PSU, case and a HDD. I don't think there's much out there thats going to get any better than that. The only downfall to this, is DDR memory, but if you have an old PC lying around, you could toss that in there.

Mobo with integrated everything: GIGABYTE GA-MA69GM-S2H AM2 AMD 690G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail $86.32

CPU w/ heatsink and fan: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ Brisbane 2.1GHz Socket AM2 65W Processor Model ADO4000DDBOX - Retail 61.99

Memory, 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2-800: mushkin 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model 996527 - Retail 56.98 or 48.98 for basically the same thing w/o heatspreaders, and waiting for the $15 MIR.

Grand Total Shipped: 205.29.

You can even play Crysis at lowest settings a little choppy...course, you still need a HD, Case, Power Supply, OS, Keyboard, Mouse, and Monitor. Plus Speakers if you enjoy sound...

But still, for what you listed, that's the start of a pretty powerful PC with all features - and quality features at that - for a pretty small amount of money.

Just some ideas...

I'll agree with Chucky2's general choice of hardware. I have 2 of those boards on order from mwave, with be-2350 processors, the rest of the stuff from newegg. mwave will assemble and test their bundles for $10...

I went to mwave because the had one of the best prices on the be-2350, slightly cheaper on the board, and they've done me right in the past...

Tryin' to keep the heat output down...

I went with corsair 667 memory from newegg- entirely adequate for AM2 systems in general...

Dell isn't a bad answer, at all, either- just received one of their holiday specials for my mom, who lives 100 miles away, making tech support a problem for me... the box I built for her a few years back has been acting up, and it's tough to deal with from a distance...

I have the AM2 GA-MP61-S3 and like it (with an X2 6000+). Onboard HD realtek sound is actually very good

To fulfill your DIY needs, you can upgrade memory. It can use 4GB without any "reserved or missing memory" issues.

With Parallels, you can run any Windows programs you might need.

Cool, quiet, elegant design.

Gigabyte GA-MA69G-S3H - is a fullsize ATX (the S2H is mATX). Both of those boards are excellent - I have the S3H version.
Uses ATI Radeon X1250 GPU
HDMI output for HDTV
Excellent onboard sound
Onboard LAN
Lots of USB interfaces
BUT NO onboard CPU - that I do not care about

and both boards overclocks like champs (my X2 4000+ runs at 2830 in an HTPC which is on 5-6 hours a day)
