I am setting up 3 pc which needs to be connected to the internet using an USB ADSL modem. I wanted to try using the ICS program but was not sure wheather it can meet my demand. 2 pc are runnin Win XP & 1 is running Wn 98 & I need to always change the sharing server frequently. Can ICS do this or I need a third party software to do this? Any suggestions to go about this?

Look into an HPN (home phoneline network)...

Im not really sure i understand your problem.

They way i understand it is such: you have 3 computers, and i assume each already has a 10/100 nic. You want to share a DSL modem over these three computers. You already know OF ICS and know it can be used, but you dont desire to use 1 as strictly the server, as you desire to change the server periodically between these three computers. (I am unsure as to whether or not you have a hub/switch). You also want to know if WinXP and Win98 can run ICS.

Am i right or wrong?

Yes, I am confused too. What do you mean by "change the sharing server." You mean change the machine that is hooked up to the dsl or something?

It is too bad you have a usb adsl modem. Any chance you can trade it in for an ethernet modem so you can use a router? If not, maybe you want a Draytek Vigor2200USB router.

Yes, you are right. I do hae a switch connecting the 3 computers. I know a router would be good but in my part of the country, routers is 'kinda' pricey.

First, you may want to try to get a ethernet modem instead of a usb modem. The routers for ethernet are under 60 or 70 bucks now

Sometimes they will give you a usb modem as standard, but you can talk them into a ethernet modem. If that doesn't work then ICS will work.

What ICS (or network setup wizzrd in windows xp) does is bridge the connection between the two networks (internal network and your internet connection) Network Setup Wizard makes thing pretty easy for you. You can run it on the XP machines, and it will make a disk for you to run on the windows 98 machine. This biggest problem is the sharing server has to be turned on for the others to be on the net.

Why do you need to change the sharing server frequently? If you can get around that, ICS would work fine. Otherwise you will need to re-run it every time you change over.

Well, you can always order a router from another part of the country then, I don't think places are too picky about where they ship to! And even if you have to pay $130 for the Draytek, that may not seem like such a bad deal if the alternative is to keep on reconfiguring your machines (although why you have to do that, I still wonder about.)
