ICS & IP problems...

I'm trying to share my DSL with ICS... Everytime I try to set the connection up, after it says it needs to set the IP to 192.168.0.1 bla bla bla, I get a message stating "Error 765: Internet Connection Sharing cannot be enabled. A LAN connection is already configured with the IP address that is required for automatic IP addressing."

My DSL modem is hooked up through the 8RDA+'s onboard NIC with an IP of 192.168.0.10. LAN is through a 3Com Etherlink XL 10/100 NIC (3C905C-TX).

I can set the 3Com's IP to 192.168.0.1 just fine, but I still can't see the other machine and vice versa. When I restart, the NIC goes back to DHCP.

The other computer is using DHCP.

What am I doing wrong? It worked fine before I switched mobos.

Why do you have the DSL modem connected to a NIC port with a 192.168 address? You're not going to get online that way. Your NIC connecting to the modem needs to be set for automatic IP assignment.

Also, both the NICs have to be using different networks. So one can be 192.168.1.x and the other 192.168.0.x. Of course, it doesn't matter since you shouldn't be manually assigning an IP to the one on the cable modem. ICS is barfing because it's seeing that you're already using the 192.168.0.x network on one NIC and won't assign that to the other one.

I'm using a Westell Dual Connect modem and connecting with PPPoE. I'm assigning it an address so there isn't such a long pause at startup while my NIC waits for the IP. It works fine, and It was suggested to me by a member at DSLReports.

I was not aware of the exact IP assignment rules. It did work, thanks.

Just spend the 60.00 and get a Linksys router. THat ICS is full of problems...
