Ok here is the deal....
I have DirecPC Satellite Broadband because my town is too small to have cable or DSL. I have 7 computers on a network using a Switch and a 300 PII with Win ME as the server. I am using ICS with ME and need to find an alternate choice for a sharing software because, I just found out ICS shares the bandwidth between the computers, so I normally get 300K downloads it splits it 5 - 7 ways and I get about 20k per computer. If I cut the connections to the other computers it goes back to 200-300. I need to find some software that allows all the bandwidth to go to whoever is using it at the time and then share what is needed to the others when they need it. A router is not an option because the Dish has to be hooked to a PCI card in the computer. If you have any suggestions please let me know.
Thanks,

Well, by the nature of connection sharing, your bandwidth should be split up like that. If you're only using 1 machine out of the 7 connected, the full bandwidth SHOULD be alotted, and then divided as needed. If you're up for the task, you can make your own router, check it out. I'm not sure that your satelite card will be supported in linux though...

I don't know if this will help, but this is how i do it with a modem. My parents comp is connected to the internet thru a modem, so obviously my computer (same room) can't be also connected, and i don't have a modem anyway...so i set up a simple proxy server. First you have to have a network (with TCP/IP enabled and assigned)...then all you do is download a simple proxy (i used proxy plus (Proxy+))...it's free. Set that up on the computer connected to the internet (i'll call this one HOME), then on all the other ones goto the internet options, connections bar, and proxy server (or wherever it's found on whatever you're using) then put the IP address you assigned HOME and the port number requred by the proxy you installed. It works good except i can't get ICQ to connect thru it, no big deal tho...and it will allow any computer to have full bandwidth (because if you split my 28.8 connection it would be noticed (-: Hope this helped some.
