Now that I have my modem setup working my friend wants to do his cable. Our cable has static IP address. The modem is connected to a nic card in the computer. I want to add another nic card to the computer with the modem. Run a rj45 cable from the second nic to a hub. Then setup the second computer with networking to the hub. Can I run internet connection wiz on the first computer? Use the floppy to setup the second computer. Let the computer with the second nic setup with tcp/ip on the second card with auto address.
Will I lose the static address of the first nic and lose the modem setup with the auto address. He does not need a firewall so why should he have to buy a router w/hub. Will this work or is there a better way.
Thanks

if you buy a router for share internet, it will be very easy. or you can use ICS coming with win98 2nd edition, don't change any seting of your first NIC, and config your second card with 192.168.0.1 net mask 255.255.255.0, then config other computer with 192.168.0.2~..., netmask 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.0.1, keep the same seting of DNS with your first computer.
it will work fine. try it! good luck

Just set your second computer up for dhcp. When you put the second NIC in the first computer just setup ICS. It will ask you what connection you want to share, the card with the internet connection, then it will start up its own dhcp service and provide IP addresses to everyone who needs one. You will keep your existing config on the original card, and ICS will give your workgroup IP addresses. You don't have to do assign them yourself.
