ICS, and file transfer between 2 local computer

ICS, and file transfer between 2 local computer
1. Should I use the ICS, or another third-party program. Which is better?
And is there any recommendation of this type of third-party program?

2. How can I transfer files from my one computer to my another computer (apart from "thorugh

Internet", or "through CD")?
I get:
- 1 straight cable is linked from ASDL modem to LAN No.1 in my host computer
- 1 cross-over cable is linked from LAN No.2 (in host computer) to my client computer

What do I need to set?
What software do I need to install?

Why not just get a simple router? a 4 port 10/100 router would suit your needs and you wont need that "always on" funtion as you do with ICS.

The reason is I usually use the computer. Other members are just non-active.
ICS is the cheapest way to fulfil our needs.

"Power-on" is not really a problem to me. Since if I don't use the computer, my members can use mine and do their stuff. Since my members just do some simple things, so it doesn't really matter what computer they use.

Also some ISPs (including mine) may not support (some kinds of) routers.

However I encountered some problems relating to ICS. Quite troublesome.

ICS as nothing to do with File transfer between two computers.

ICS is NAT software to be able to share Internet connection.

To transfer files between computers you do not need Internet or ICS.

You have to configure Windows File & printer Sharing.

If you want to transfer file between two Independent local Networks and you are using WinXP you can Bridge the two networks, look at Windows native help for the term Bridging.

BTW. Microcenter has a Wireless Router for $9.99 you can buy one and try to see if it is compatible with your ISP. If it not it is like you chucked a useless six pack.
