ICS, 2 computers connected via crossover cable

I've been trying to set up my network, using a computer with 2 NIC's to connect to the second computer. I somehow missed a step in trying to set up ICS correctly and I know I'm supposed to see, in network properties, that one TCP/IP is shared and one is home. I don't see that, but I do see 2 TCP/IP's.
I have changed my sharing settings in internet explorer. Any suggestions how I can get those to show up? Or should I just reinstall ICS?

Staples have this week a Belkin Cable/DSL Router for $9.95 after rebate.

Router = Good

ICS = Evil. Why? With extensive use it gets corrupted and you are back to squire one.

I may end up going that "route" ;) soon, but now a new problem has come up. On my client computer, whenever I try to add a TCP/IP protocol, it adds, but not connected to my ethernet card. So, I just have TCP/IP with nothing after it. I just spent $20 on a crossover cable so I don't want to give up yet. Any solutions?

Go to add remove program, windows components and uninstall ICS, reboot and then install it again. Run the ICS wizard again and see what happens. I did this on one of my windows 98 boxes and it fixed it up for me. I think you need Client for microsoft networks installed also. If it works correctly the NIC that connects to your internet will be set to obtain an IP address automatically and be shared. The other NIC will end up with a static IP, 192.168.0.1 or something like that. It will be the DHCP server for the other PC. The other pc should be set to obtain an IP automatically. Run the network connection wizard on the client. Run it on the host too if it won't connect to the internet. As mentioned a router makes like so much easier, gives you a hardware firewall too.

I've followed the procedure through several times to no avail. The new problem is that on my client computer, nothing shows up after TCP/IP in network properties. So, I don't think the connection will work until I resolve that. I'm sure I have all the settings correct, so that should be the only problem now.

If there is nothing behind the "TCP/IP>"...then your TCP/IP is not binding to any adapters.

Make sure your drivers are installed for the NIC. You may even want to swap out NICS as well.

your TCP/IP should look something like...

TCP/IP>Linksys LNE100TX
TCP/IP>Realtek RTxxx

and so forth....if not, Reinstall card. If still no go..uninstall TCPIP stack and reinstall it.

If still no go...get a new NIC.

I would highly recommend a router, as ICS SUCKS big time...
