ICQ Spammin, am I the only one who receives this crap?

I use ICQ, I have 90+ users on my list. For some reason, almost everyday I end up getting messages that follow.
"Forward this to everyone on your list and your icq flower will turn blue"

NO it won't!

Anyone else get this sh*t?

I just hope yall don't start these messages.

Yeah, I get it . . . usually from the less informed people on my contact list . . . it's like, hello, dummy, it says on Miraballis' web page that they will not contact through ICQ and to disregard any messages.

Some people's kids, I guess . . .

What I get when I turn off the "Only receive message from people on your list" feature is weirdos sending porn links...and when you go to look up their number, their number is invalid.

I think the amount of junk icq messages I get from people inviting me into their sick sick world is roughly equal or heck, even more than the icq messages I get from people actually on my list.

Anyone know of a way to block all this crud? I thought I did but somehow it didn't work...

Freesia, I have a kind of old version of ICQ, but go to ICQ->Preferences & Security->Security & Privacy. Click on Ignore List tab, and the very first check box (at least in my version) says Accept messages only from users on my contact list. Check that and only people on your list can message you. The disadvantage is that people can't just message you without being added to your list, but that's the only way I know to stop the weird messages.

These guys are getting cunning these days. I sometimes get ICQ messages/urls that say 'Im 18, from Moscow and looking to become a professional model, and I wondered if you could give me your views on my modelling photos'. Hmmmm, could it possibly be pr0n? I think the Moscow bit gives it away .

I hardly ever get that. I got it more with my old (I deleted it) ICQ account - 32756660.. but now with the one I'm using, which is one I started a few years ago and reactivated (5935798).. I hardly ever ever get messages like that, but it still happens occasionally - just a random link from some ICQ UIN that I don't know, trying to get me to go to their pr0n sites... doesn't work on me.

But I don't turn off the feature where anybody can message you, then you don't get messages from random chatters, etc...

I get porn and "Get Rich Quick" crap from time to time.
It's gonna get worse too if it's associated with AOL/Netscape, which it seems I heard ICQ is.
Anybody know for sure if ICQ's in bed with the AOL bunch?

Your talking about the URL's right w/the little glob that goes RIBIT like a frog. heheh I hate them things. But sometimes if someone just gets icq and I know they have no idea what it's about I make one up and send it to em and they get all freaked out it's so funny

Neo, I'm using 99a...My hubby, who's Virge on your list I think, is using 2000.

Click on the ICQ button, choose Security & Privacy. A new window pops up, click on the Ignore tab. You'll see a list of check boxes, then a places where people you have on ignore are listed. The accept messages only from users on my contact list is the first checkbox choice.
