ICq in redhat 8.0

Yes, well you can install ICQ clones. LICQ is the one I like to use. It supports all major features of ICQ. Redhat 8 will install it if you installed everything, else you can add it at any time by downloading the RPM from a redhat mirror or going back to your install CDs and adding it to your system.

i am kind of new to linux ( trying to use other OS to replace $M ). I know where to download Licq . So after i download all those files , how to install ?

i'm assuming it is a tarball, in that case do tar zxvf licq-whatever.tar.gz and read the INSTALL file.

if it is an rpm i believe you do rpm -ivh file.rpm

man tar, man rpm, yadda yadda.

Gaim is the default redhat IM program...and, hey, look at that, it does ICQ too 🙂

What you need to do is click the plugins button when it first comes up, and then hit the load button, up pops a list of all the plugin files....find the one that says ICQ and load it (as well as any others you want, gaim does MSN, Yahoo, IRC and jabber as well). Then create a new connection and in the type dropdown box pick the one that says ICQ. Type in your ICQ User ID number, and password, and away you go.

Note: This might not be exactly how its done...as I'm not infront of my linux box right now.
