ICQ crap

I've been using an older version of ICQlite without the ad thingy.

Today when I logged on....it told me I had to install the newest version (with ad banner) before I could continue. I chose not to....and it promptly shut down.

I need to find another messenger service. No more ICQ for me.

Even if I have to put up with an ad banner eventually....it will not be with ICQ program....they've really gone done hill lately.

ICQ is still the best if you ask me.. retarded programs like MSN just suck way more than they are good.. I use ICQ with the ads for a few years now and dont bother me one bit. I don't even look at them 🙂

There's a freeware program called Trillian that lets you use the ICQ network, as well as AIM, MSN, Yahoo & IRC. Basically a universal IM, no ads whatsoever 🙂

There are hacks out there to get rid of the ads in ICQ. I'm too lazy to search right now but look for "ICQ Hack" or "ICQ Resource Hack"

from a different forum:

"To remove the Ad's in 1253 goto your LiteDataFiles directory. Delete the files Banners.xml clbanner.xml and psearch.xml.

Next put a folder for each you deleted. Yes put .xml just as if it was a file. This will prevent ICQ from auto updating the file.

This will replace the WinAmp ad with an ICQ lite logo, and remove banner ad's from you message.

If you would like to make the ICQ lite logo blank. Also delete climage.html and create the folder climage.html in that place. This leaves and ugly white box though so I prefer just leaving the logo 🙂

Hope this helps someone out there.

Jeremy"

I use ICQ Plus along with ICQ Pro. It's a free program that lets you "skin" ICQ, and doing this hides all the ads. I use the Windows XP skin, by the way, since ICQ doesn't like the Windows XP styles for some reason.
