Icons missing in WinXP

Recently I noticed on my favorites menu (docked on the side) and in Windows Explorer the left side directory tree has no little icons next to each thing like it used to. I have done everything possible with Folder Options to no avail. Has anyone else experienced this and have an idea how to fix it? I have linked an example below for my favorites menu.
