Icons keep moving about.....argh!

A friend has a gateway computer with windows ME. I ran Spybot Search and Destroy last night, removing 180 nasty files, and defragged the drive (334 days since last defrag, LOL!).

I will be going back to finish cleaning it up, but I ran across a wierd thing...... When I selected "show icons" in the active desktop, the Icons shuffled about every second or so, regardless of whether I selected order by name, type, auto organize, etc. If I reorganized by type, it would look right for a few seconds, then start the endless shuffle. The icons would even pile up in random places on the desktop.
Is this some sort of funny virus that went around?? I am stumped by this one.
 
should I change the title? This is pretty funny to watch, till you need to hit one of those shortcuts, LOL!!
 
Thank you! did you recognize it, or search symantec? I did some googling and searching on microsoft, but maybe had a bad string.
