Question Icons in shortcuts and exe files disappearing

Did a fresh W10 install on a spare m.2 nvme drive for my gaming rig.. don't know what I did but i downloaded several apps like cpuz, occt, capframex, timerbench, made shortcuts to desktop and several days later all the icons on the shortcuts have disappeared. The shortcuts still work, just no icon. Checked the folder where stored and even the original .exe files are missing their icons.

What the **** happened?

This registry operation might bring them back - I use it as advertized, to remove shortcut arrows on icons. It appears to work as an icon refresher. Of course, YMMV

Thanks for the reply, I did do a Iconcache.db delete but that didn't help. It might be a bad windows update er something

Yes, of course.

Since then I've seen the launching of LatencyMon wipe out some icons, a reboot wipe out the renewed icons. Settings changed with Windows reboot, wiped out different icons.. It's been random but it happens. I thought maybe it's disk caching and I turned that off, nope, wasn't it.

I think it's this MS Cumulative Update Preview 22H2 KB5023773 Both machines I'm using are now having the same issue. DDU just lost it's exe icon
