icon problems in XP, can you help?

Hahahaha, argh, dumb computer....anyways, sorry for that, here
Hey Everyone,
Jus upgraged to winXP from win98SE. in win98SE i had personal icons for all my folder, including printers and control panel, etc...When i upgraded to XP, all my text file, configuration file, and installation icons became recyclying bin icons, and my control panel and printer icons are missing!!!

What do i do? how do i get them back, i used e-icon in win98, than i used it again in XP, and tried to go back to default icons, and that's what happened, got weird recycling bin icons and no icons for my control panel and printers. It's really buggin me, can anyone help? how do i change them back? how do i change them period? i don't want to use e-icon anymore, cuase, it jus gave me problems, Thanks all

your misplaced icons is just the begining of problems associated with upgrading from 9x to XP.🙂

It looks like you wont be able to use E-Icon anymore. You can try compatibility mode by right clicking the .exe file and selecting properties, then select the compatibility tab.

In order restore your icons you will need to browse your HD and find out where the recycling bin icons are located.

You can now go to the default icons and change them by right clicking and selecting properties, then browsing to the folder you found earlier and select your E-Icon icons.

Depending on how many icons you made, it may take you a while to finish the task.

Good luck

for most icons, you could probably do that, but icons for control panel, and printers, can't right click to change them that easily, any suggestions for those???

I have no suggestions, but the answer is in adjusting the registry for control panel icons to show properties in the right click menu.

I couldnt tell you now, I'm on a NT 4.0 machine.
