I really think Apple is on to something big here. They updated to iOS 5 and updated their desktops to Lion. How do you tie these two devices together? With iCloud.

If apple can get this trifecta to work together seamlessly I forsee Apple being much bigger than they are now. Mobile competitors around the world are gonna have a hard time breaking this cohesive ecosystem.

Apple said that the desktop is now just "another device", so I'd assume it has all of the syncing features of MobileMe it's replacing. Also, they said now you can go PC-free if you want - all you need is an iOS device & the cloud. That's pretty awesome, if you ask me.

imo, they could totally win at life if (1) they added mouse support to iOS (ex. Citrix in business), and (2) added a pressure-sensitive stylus (a la Wacom), along with a Retina screen on the iPad so you couldn't see the pixels of the lines. That'd be both a desktop & paper replacement, since you could dock into a KVM via HDMI & USB or Bluetooth.

I'm curious as to how iCloud will function with Airport Express, if there will be any integration. I'm still waiting for them to kill Sonos. Or for Sonos to get awesome iTunes support.

I just watched the keynote and have to say Wow.

More evolutionary than revolutionary, but the tight integration with iOS 5 just, as Steve Jobs likes to say, "It just works"

Based upon stock price, gotta assume this all leaked out before and reaction was Buy the Rumor, Sell the News.

It does seem like it wants to lock you into the Apple eco-system, but quite impressive presentation, nonetheless.

With all these great push/sync features, it's a good thing we have unlimited data on all the carriers!

Oh, wait... :(

Exactly what I was thinking when I was watching the presentation. Hopefully there is an option to only sync when on a wireless network.

Apple has begun their major push to rule the entire mobile, laptop, tablet market.

They created their world, they should rule it. If others want to compete, they need to come up with their own original products instead of copying Apple's....*cough* Google Android *cough*

Would it be accurate to say that Lion is just a second revision of Leopard, tightening integration with iOS, rather than a radical new platform?

And how many computers can you authorize to use Lion with with single $30 purchase (5?)? Is authorization just iTunes authorization, or is there a different authorization for App Store.
iCould integration is obviously the WWDC headliner for most; but Lion is more a backport of signature iOS features. I think again pricing it at just $30 is a tacit admission that it's not a radical new new thing. As much as I hate to admit it, Mac's share of Apple's overall business is down to 20%; so it's a distant second to iPhone and soon to be semi-forgotten behind iPad as well. Don't get me wrong, Mac unit share is enjoying double digit YoY growth (fueled most notably by greater China and enterprise adoption).

It's my impression that it's the standard iTunes authorization for 5 clients, no? Granted I don't yet have the Mac App Store but evidently I'll eventually have to get it like everyone else. :)

They already enabled the automatic download of Apps/Music/Books purchased on other devices and there is an option to only use WiFi (check Settings->Store). Also, in the App Store, they've added the button to see and download your previously purchased Apps. I'm hoping there's a way to permanently remove an app from your purchase history though. Some apps are no longer installed for a reason.

My 'rule the world' comment wasn't supposed to be a negative thing.

Its a good thing, it'll wake up other manufacturers and hopefully more competition will drive the price down for us :D
