iChat Screen Sharing problems

MotionMan

Lifer
I have use iChat screen sharing at home on my Mini without many issues until recently. I use it mostly to help my parents but, recently, I would be disconnected almost every time after just a few seconds. I thought it was something to do with my parents' Mac, but last night, it happened on my father-in-law's Mac, too.

I just tried it again with my MacBook from the office and it failed on my parents' Mac, but worked perfectly on my father-in-law's.

My Mini at home and my MacBook are set up almost identically (OSX-SL).

Thoughts? Trouble-shooting tips?

First things I think of are router problems with the port, but being that you tried it from your office as well, then that's probably not the issue.

Does audio/video work, or do those disconnect right away as well?

Also, did Screen Sharing in Sys Prefs get turned off by accident?

I have not noticed a problem with that. I will try it with my dad tonight.

Would that affect the "screen sharing" in iChat? Are they the same thing?

I was just looking through Google for support tickets about this, and some were saying that it needed to be on. I know I've always had it on when I've used it, but I usually turn it on so I can use Screen Sharing from my other systems in the house.

Hmmm. It is off, but I have never touched it.

I will turn it on and try again tonight.
