ICH9 and P35 instability

Has anyone noticed that some apps don't work well with ICH9? My other board with ICH7 works perfect on the same software. I've done full complete reinstalls from scratch just to see, and well, I think it must be some driver issue with ICH9 on P35. Pretty lame.

And the software in question is Xilisoft DVD Ripper Platinum 4, download it and check it out, on ICH9 it crashes hard.

Sometimes upgrading is not.

My G31 board works a lot more solidly, can't clock up the FSB as much though (350 vs 376) and oh yeah I do 4 day burn-ins on all my machines, 24h memtest, 24h orthos, 24h dft drive tests and 24 cpuburn.

I would say that the fact that your specific G31 is better in this sense than your specific IP-35 does not necessesarily translates into an instability of ICH9 in general.

I have variety of boards including IP-35, and I do not see any thing that might support this notion.

The only thing that "bugs" me with the IP-35 is its behavior during Boot Up.

Potentially relevant difference between ICH7 and ICH9:

ICH7 = integrated IDE/ATA channel
ICH9 = requires third-party controller or PHY chip to provide IDE/ATA interface

These optical drives are ATAPI, yes?

Tried using 5 different drives, some sata, some ide. Like I said, I swapped everything including cpus, just motherboard is the only part that differs.

It may be a driver issue, may have to dig back into this again.

JackMDS, whats the boot-up behavior you don't like?

It just gives me a laugh that my cheap-o G31 board is stabler. Only clocks up to 350 FSB though.

Old Hippie, did you rip a disc using it? Thanks boss.

1. The computer at random Boot 10 sec. Off, Boot again and then work OK.

2. At times I need to swap the boot drive (boot drive is on Mobile tray), every time after swap it resorts at Boot to an unbootable device.

I.e., I have to Boot into the BIOS and choose the correct Boot Drive.

However the computer is On most of the time and work perfectly as long as it is not need to boot from Off.

It has a regular (none SATA) DVD R/W, as well as IDE & SATA Drives, Flash Card Reader, and 500GB USB Drive in enclosure, there is No problems with any device.

JackMDS, that's a bloody horrid problem. You have my sincerest condolences. My GA-P35-DS3L doesn't exhibit anything close to that, thank the gods.

I use to have GA-P35-DS3L and I prefer the IP-35.

Waiting extra 10 sec. few time a week does not bother me.

The Issue of Booting from the swapped drive is an issue with almost all Intel based new Mobos.
