Any other players here? I know I am 7 or so years behind the times but after playing baldurs gate 2 for the first time 8 or 9 years ago for some reason I just never played it again unfortunately until recently. I beat both 1/2 and now I got icewind dale since I enjoy the infinity engine.

Pros
Infinity engine makes just about anything good
more combat oriented which is good and bad, challenging battles
create cast of your own choosing which is good and bad
multiplayer

cons
somewhat linear, not many sidequests although I must say the plot has a lot of suprise elements and some really awesome suprises

*SPOILER*

like when you go into the dragons eye and hit the bottom level and think you found nice peaceful priests only to open up a door and there are snake beings feasting on human flesh and then everyone attacks you, that is good stuff!!

dated graphics

Overall I really like the game and I have the expansion as well. Any mods I should get?

<-- PC gaming is that way

FYI, GameTap.com has IWD1-2, Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment in their rental service.

I haven't played IWD since it came out, but I'm replaying PS:T now. The graphics are lo-res but the art is great and the story is still excellent.

Yes I notice my mistake :(. I played pst for the first time ever a year ago but sadly I only had my widescreen monitor which really makes things really really ugly at 640x480 with no fix in sight

I loved icewind dale just as much as i loved Diablo II LoD :)

I played Icewind dale after i read the Drizzt series. Great series by the way, HIGHLY recommend it!! But anyway the game was amazing for its time, and is still very fun to play now :)

I own IWD2. Fun game, but compared to BG2, it pales... but it's still fun :). It seems to be a more hack-and-slash-geared game, though, rather than story (admit it, goblinoid hordes attacking a city isn't as exciting as you being the son of the lord of murder).

IWD lacked the character/story of BG2. having played BG2 first, IWD seemed so lame. the only things that *REALLY* bugged me were the journal interface and the constant mobs of monsters. otherwise, it wasn't bad :)
