Started playing IWD1 for the first time, I must say that one thing that turned me off was the lack of a party with dialogs. Having party members that interact with you, npcs in the world and each other really help the roleplaying experience. This mod seems to aid in that it gives you characters that interact with you, each other and NPCs in the world like BG2. The writing is not as good as BG2, but what do you expect for a free mod that the community put together?

It has really made it a more enjoyable experience and since and I thought that IWD and BG2 fans might enjoy it.

One might also be interested in IWD: Unfinished Business, which adds back a good bit of the cut content.

I guess it was sort of tradeoff, having a fully custom party in IWD and IWD2. I kind of appreciated having full control over my party members, their stats, and power leveling, instead of getting saddled with a bunch of NPCs with mediocre stats who ended up being liabilities. Especially with the IWD games being far more combat-focused.

It does get a little dull though, with your characters all being so generic and lifeless.

How's the voice acting in the mod?

Poor to mediocre, fortunately not all dialog have voice-overs.

You can customize several of their class choices during the mod's install. Their personalities remain the same.

The only thing I liked about Icewind Dale series was that they had superior art direction compared to Bioware, which was easily rectified since all the resources were IE and were easily transferable to BG/BG2 mods.

Icewind Dale did have some character in it, though it was subtle. The Paladin would call out the disguised snake-men, if he was upfront when you encountered their lair, screwing any chance of sneaking around and being stuck with a straight-up fight. The journal entry on this was a little bit... irrate. Heh.
