IceWind Dale trilogy versus Baldur's Gate I/II

We have here (in Israel) a new collection of the BG\IWD series - all of them. A single box and a couple of DVD's.
I don't have a DVD player but my CD-ROM just crapped, so I may be "forced" to get both... 😛
Lost my original 4-CD (or 5?) BG2 copy, unfortunately.

I liked both, but I preferred BGII because it was so non-linear. There were so many side quests and you didn't have to do one specific order to the quests. you could do anything in any order.

eventually party members will start talking to you. if you have female party members (and you have a male character, of course), you can start a romance w/ them. also, if you have party members of conflicting alignment they might fight each other. i hate minsc kill edwin because edwin made fun of dynaheir's death so much 😀😀

All my party members are of good or neutral alignment. I am using a modded dialog file from here, it is chapter 3 already (10 days) and none of them have spoken to me or each other aside form the occasional "Gorion would be proud of you" remark from one of the henchys. Think it is bugged?

and there is romance in Baldurs Gate 1?😕, with who? The only one around that is not married is my sister in the game:Q

or does one make use of that belt south of the inn in chapter 1 that changes one's gender😕...... this game is starting to get disturbing

You can talk to your party members at any time iirc. Just click on the mouth/speech icon thingy and then click on a party member.

Tried that, its a no go..... But, Minsc and his lady did strike up a conversation about his rodent, only two lines tho.

Well, just finished Baldur's Gate 1. Awesome game! One of the best RPGs that I have played since KotoR, if only it had party dialog interaction like KotoR. Thanks for pointing me in that direction all. Now, to BG2 and the throne of BHAAL!

BG1 spoilers:

Thought they could close BG1 better though, I mean just kill the guy and watch a short movie🙁

I personally liked BG1 better than BG2. Yeah, SoA had some great character development, and great locations and epic fights, but I just felt it was TOO long. BG was a very very good game unto itself, with (IMO) a great political storyline, and it just keeps your attention despite the level 6 limit. I even liked that, it made you appreciate the 3rd level spells a lot more than in any other game. What other game has fireball as a rare and vaunted spell?

It's like the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. Obviously LotR is much more epic, but the Hobbit is such a great little story.

Did you play with the BGII engine mod? It makes the game so much easier to handle(with the keyboard shortcuts & better resolution).

No, I did not use Tutu, did it old school all the way.

Damn, Baldurs Gate 2 seems to have fixed all my gripes about BG1. It has better (and more) dialog, better journal, items autostack, unknown items are shaded, people get out of my way when I am trying to walk!

So far... BG2 seems to be near.... near.... perfect......

Glad I did not play this game when it came out, otherwise my standards would have been higher and more games would have sucked.
