I agree 100%. Since Europe is so fascinated with going green, they can stop using electricity to save the planet. We on the other hand, like our heat, electronics, and technology thank you very much.

It must be nice to live in a world of such extremes with no middle ground in anything.

Well from Prior eruptions like guam and Washington State, and maybe near Alaska, the Volcanic Ash can be so heavy that it can cover entire towns. Ask the people at Mt Vesuvius if they liked the poisonous gas that killed them? If you ever get to Italy, go visit Pompei. Volcanos emit things like Sulfur and other noxious fumes. I have never seen any show about volcanos where they did not mention the poisonous fumes.

The only thing good about this is that it teaches us just how small and pathetic we are compared to the capability of the planet we live on.

This one volcano in the course of a couple of weeks has probably put more pollution into the atmosphere than all of man will in the course of a year.

You actually believe that garbage? You know that's a myth created by Rush Limbaugh right?

Do you know what middle ground is?

I tell you "Give me $50!"

You say "No!"

I say "Why?"

You say "It's mine, not yours."

I pull out a gun and say "Ok lets comprimise, just give me $20 then."

There is your middle ground.

Then when I spend it, and you still have $30, I'll ask for $30... no wait lets share some middle ground, you give me $15 and keep $15...

No, fuck your "middle ground" of comprimising peoples rights away. You have $50 and I have $0, end of story.

Some things have no middle ground. Is stealing right or wrong? Do you own exclusive rights to your own body or does society own your body? These are the places where there can be no comprimise and where the ideological dividing line between "left" and "right" will forever be.

No kidding. The very founding of this country was built upon the idea of being seperate and different from Europe. Why is everyone so eager to be and act like them again? Sorry, the whole world is not called Europe. They can do their thing, we will do ours. Quit it with this global unification shit.

I'm not opposed to minimizing waste and being efficient with resources, but there are just certain things that are a part of who I am that I will not give up. Yeah I do recycling and use energy efficient bulbs, turn of lights, etc, etc, etc. But I also like driving 500+ HP cars and having 106"+ screens too. You want to drive a Prius and wear hemp sandals and not use computers, go right ahead, I'm not stopping anybody. You can convince me to not leave my stuff on 24/7 when I'm not using it and cut up plastic 6 pack rings before I toss them, but you're never going to convince me to trade down to lesser stuff or get rid of them. I am going to buy and own whatever I want and have the money to pay for, and the only concession you'll get back from me is that I will recycle and dispose of my used tires properly in an environmentally friendly way when I am done doing burnouts. I'll keep it in tip top shape so that not only is it producing the best power, but that naturally means it's not emitting smog and black or blue smoke or running inefficiently.

Not being wasteful is reasonable. Returning to the stoneage or being concerned about someone elses "excess" because they desire bigger or more powerful things than you need is not. There are 8,394 of my cars in the world. How many millions of Hondas, Kias, Toyotas, etc were produced and sold in the same year and are on the road producing far more C02 than my car does?

You both Fail hard on those points. The US wasn't founded upon being different from Europe, in the general sense, but being different in very specific ways. I'll also point out that this won't affect the Green aspect of Europe in any way whatsoever.

You mean like, the specific and unique view that holds individual liberty above all else in society, which is 100% opposed to Europe's tradition of socialism and statism?

Guns do not make justice, they just make criminals. Is that what you are? Are you a criminal?

Agreed - please stop using European inventions immediately, such as the English language, and the computer. Cheers.

I can pick and choose to use computers or the English language, it's not being forced down my thoat. Unless you mean it has to be an energy efficient slow single core $25 integrated video computer, then we are back to the original argument of me buying whatever I want with however much power and performance I desire regardless of Europes approval.

Are you going to bitch that I have a 30" monitor that I "don't need" and that I should see some middle ground and settle for a more energy efficient 17" monitor? No thx.

It's a very simple concept. If you don't get it, you don't get it, and that is why you are who you are.

Wow that's deep... truly you are a philosophical genius...

Lets see if I can untangle your amazing logic here - you seem to be describing an imaginary robbery, and then using this example to suggest that people should never compromise or work together, for some reason. You then mention 'left' and 'right' by which I assume you mean capitalism and socialism, but neither of these philisophies advocates no cooperation between people - in fact they are two different ways of achieving very close cooperation. How any of this relates to the volcano I have absolutely no idea.

Depends on your definition of wasteful. Some people feel that simply having big or nice things is wasteful in and of itself, even if you properly disposed of the packaging or waste produced by them. eg: see above 30" vs 17" monitor.

The subtopic addressed in that analogy is "middle ground". You are trying too hard.

Yes we can work together and cooperate as long as you don't attempt to comprimise away my individual liberty to own property of my choosing and budget. I'll have my V8 and 30" monitor and recycle, you can have your 3 cyl and 14" energy efficient monitor and recycle and we'll get along, ok? So what's the problem? Why can't we get along and cooperate?
