Man.. if I got a phonecall from HP asking for their monitor back.. I would laugh and say to them "My monitor broke and I threw it away" muhaha.

HP is slowly choking to death on Compaq. Expect more money related weirdness from them in the future. Best thing you can do is steer clear of them. :(

It's OK to make mistakes but why take it further to ask customers return what thay bought? They must have lost a lot.

Well maybe you cant always rip off people with your crappy computers, and sometimes roles change.

This is just a negative move for HP.

Imagine what value of goodwill they must have lost by asking for more money/ return!!

did I completely miss the thread when this deal was active? it says the 17" LCD was $199 since june. I don't remember seeing any threads here about it. I'm sure I would have jumped on it if I had. bummer!

I wonder what would they do with USED monitors anyway. Would they try to sell them as NEW? If they sell them as USED, they would not get much more for them than the $200 (after the cost of recuperation from current owners), and if they sell them as NEW, it is fraud. Dumbasses.

If I had one, I would definitely return mine. For $449 bucks that is! Plus tax, shipping, handling and packaging charge.

I wonder if there is a Tiffany Franklin at that 800 number. I can't believe HP is this dumb. Sounds like a libel toward HP (not that they cannot possibly be this dumb).

Let's see-first the fiasco about the hp/compaq support outsourcing in australia(one where they were actually making good money keeping things in-house), now this. Is Carly making it a requirment for people to have s**t for brains to be employed there? And doesn't anyone run anything past the PR flaks before doing something this stupid?

Lol. They can ask for returns all they like, it doesn't mean you have to do it.

Reminds me of the Buy.com $50 off $50 coupon- and when they realized they messed up, they asked people to call and authorize a $50 charge on their CC. Uh, yeah, right, I'll do that...

Funny stuff.

One of the great users on Neowin originally posted a link to the 17" (link now leads to an error page, shockingly) which was selling for $199 since June 31st 2003.

WTF, the $199 price was posted for 3 months since June 31st 2003 and one posted it on the Hot Deal.

Yes it goes to show how long a price mistake would last without all the dumb n00bs here ruining them by calling in
