IC7 undervolt issues?

My IC7 consistantly sits at a lower CPU voltage than what I've set in the BIOS (idle or load). With everything at stock (2.8c @ 2.8c, 1.525v) my CPU voltage sits around 1.45v to 1.47v. When I overclock I have to start increasing my voltage around 215-220 FSB. I've heard of people can get to 230->250 FSB with no voltage increase with a 2.8c.

Right now I'm running at 230 FSB @ 1.6v, but idle or under load this swings from 1.52v to 1.58v (never hits 1.6 in any situation).

Thoughts on this:

a) My board undervolts and therefore I'm really hitting 230 FSB with a slight voltage increase
b) Voltages are being reported low by my board
c) My 2.8C isn't anything special
d) I don't understand voltages!

I'd really like to push for 240-> 250 FSB, but I'm concerned about moving towards 1.7v (unless of course it's really lower than that).

Thoughts? What voltages are you IC7 (plain, G or Max-3) OC'ers using?

Thanks!

The IC7 series undervolts like crazy. They are among the best overclockers for P4's, but you do have to give them more voltage in the BIOS to be represented by actual voltage.

I have my 2.8 @ ~3.4 Ghz right now; I'm giving it 1.625V in the BIOS, which turns out to be 1.55-1.57V actual; when I set it to 1.6V at 3.3 Ghz, it runs at about 1.52-1.54.

1.65+ V in the BIOS is not unsafe with this board, as it undervolts by 0.5-.75 .

A better PSU will give you less loss of voltage though; I have a 420W Enermax (couple years old) in my PC; a friend of mine has a new 460W Enermax on an IC7 Max3 and he gets a little bit more (actual) voltage: 1.55V after setting it to 1.6 in the BIOS and 1.58V set at 1.625V.

Been happy with IC7-G. Volts are good and steady from winbond using good 420 psu.

My 2.8C can go 240 fsb on default 1.52v. Anything over 240 I have to raise vcore to 1.62.

Highest stable achieved is 260fsb at 3.64Ghz but I'm keeping it 24/7 @ 3.5Ghz even.

Check sig for configuration. Also check www.overclockers.com database to check others for comparison matching mobos, cpu type and cooling solutions.

Thanks guys... good to know it's not just my board.

What's funny is how the last bios update for the IC7 specifically mentioned "fixing cpu temperature calculation", but since I updated my CPU temps have reported even higher than before. More classic IC7 stuff I guess...
