My computer seemed to die after a power spike today. First time I tried to reboot, everything spun up but did nothing. I pulled the power, replugged and when turning it on, I get one long beep - one long beep, repeated etc.

Anyone have a list of the beep codes? Been browsing through the manual but don't see em.

<sigh>...all my work! Hoping my 4x250gb HDs aren't dead...

Yeah? How do you know? Got a link to the list?

Just replaced both RAM chips with guaranteed two, and then one working piece of ram. Also cleared CMOS. Same beep error.

I've now tested the RAM, videocard, and PSU in a separate working system, and all of em work fine. Only thing left is mobo and CPU...any clue which one's dead?

Time to upgrade to Conroe, which will probably be replacements for everything, since I have DDR and AGP...<sigh>!

Asrock 775Dual-VSTA lets you keep your DDR and AGP but allows a Conroe upgrade.

Just don't expect a whole lot of features/OC'ing options.

yeah...just thinking I may as well go all out - move to PCI-Express, DDR2, etc. Might go for an mATX or SFF even and put the four HDs in an eSata enclosure.

Didn't need this now! Ack.

Get a working system. Yank the RAM out and turn it on. You'll hear the same beep. One long beep (often repeated) is 99% RAM error (not necessarily faulty RAM, could be bad contact, wrong latency settings, etc.). With RAM in there, pull the video card and you'll get a quick, staccato sequence of beeps, usually four or eight, with the first beep a hair longer than the rest, and perhaps repeating as well. Kind of like, "beee-be-be-bep."

Again, try it sometime on a working system. Don't worry, it won't harm the system.

And since you insisted... AWARD BIOS Beep Codes @abit-usa.com
1 Long Beep: Memory problem

Explanation: There is a failure of some sort related to the system memory.

---------------

1 Long, then 3 Short Beeps: Video error

Explanation: The BIOS is unable to access the video system in order to write any error messages to the screen.

---------------

Continuous Beeping: Memory or video problem

Good luck believing that link... since you didn't believe me. My apologies for trying to help.

No worries...just wanted to see the beep codes. Even so, its definitely not the ram cause I've tested and retested everything in multiple systems, and good ram from other systems in the broken one. I've narrowed it down to the CPU or motherboard, and since I don't have another Intel box nearby, its going to be a while to test those.

Thus the upgrade to Conroe. I give up.
