This morning I got home from the store with the wife and my PC was off (it was on when I left). There was a burning electronics smell when I walked in my computer room. I tried to hit the pwr button but the lights just flickered and no fans or anything. The pwr supply is good and I think the CPU is good since I tried a brand new 2.8C I had just picked up. The only thing I can think of is the NB temp has been creaping up over the last couple of days >60c.

In the mean time I picked up the MAX 3 version from Fry's on my way to work so hopefully it can handle the Prescott's pwr consumption.

RMA? It's already been sent to Abit! Unfortunately I think I found out what the problem was. As I was installing the MAX 3 I noticed (Like a dumb a$$ Koolance puts a clear sticker to protect the polished finish) that I had left the protective covering on the new water block for the NB it is now 20c cooler than the last time I looked before it died. I had just gotten the cooler the day before. The new one will be foresale as soon as I get confirmation that it is on the way.

Thugs, I was only running at 1.41, the next step up from default.

I must say that the MAX 3 is a much improved board over the 2. The OTES is pretty cool and looks to be effective. I have not had a chance to benchmark yet but overall it feels snapier. And I am able to run at 250FSB where on the MAX 2 I could not go above 249. I am going to try higher this weekend.

I also tried a new OEM 2.8C from Fry's and I went for a 260FSB first boot and it was stable with Folding in the background and backing up files. Temp only hit 45c where as the 2.8E is at 55c. temps are with a water temp of 33c

Good to see you didn't lose anything else besides the motherboard. Glad I got rid of mine long time ago.
