IC7 and random boot freezes

I built a system for a friend:

IC7 (shipping BIOS)
P4 2.4C (1.60 v)
2 x 512 MB Corsair PC3500 at 5:4 (2.60 v)
255 fsb
80GB Maxtor on Primary IDE Master (no SATA connected)

I ran the SETI on the system for 2 weeks 24x7, rebooted many times with no problem. I gave it to him a week ago and now he says it will freeze after during the POST. If he removes the power cord, waits a min, then plugs it in it works fine. He describes it as the system "can't find the hard drive". I see there's others sharing this pain in the IC7 thread....no fix?

Is this a BIOS issue?

badthad, did your friend upgraded the BIOS to 1.4? I had the message "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT BOOT DISK" randomly after upgraded to 1.4.(no such problem using 1.3 though). had to do the Ctrl-Alt-Del to reboot and then it is okay...

I would have him set the RAM to 2.7V (I assume you meant 2.6V, not 1.6V, for the present RAM voltage). Corsair allows for up to 2.8V, so this should still be ok.

Yea, the RAM is at 2.6V which is plenty. I've read that others using the 1.4 BIOS are still seeing this problem.

Thanks guys.

IC7/IS7 has an undervolting problem, bump up the voltage on the vdimm. Not sure if bumping up the vagp would help tho.
