I've just installed an older WD IDE HD that has 98se OS on it as Slave drive into a NEW system that has XPpro with WD sata set as master, Abit IC-7 mobo with Phoenix Award bios.

I've tried the following advice which I gleaned off another forum and it let me boot into XP pro with the SATA drive whereas before the old WD drive with 98 was attempting to boot and then crash since it didn?t recognize the system. Still now that XP is booting from the correct drive into XP windows explorer does not see the older EIDE HD even though BIOS lists it as an IDE Slave and WD diag tool shows it?

# Select the "Integrated Peripherals" screen, and then select "Onchip IDE Device". Set the following options in the indicated order:
a) ?IDE Bus Master? set to ?Enabled?
b) "Onchip Serial ATA? set to "Enhanced Mode"
c) "Onchip Serial ATA Mode" set to ?IDE?
# In the "Advanced BIOS Features" screen set the following options:
a) ?Hard Disk Boot Priority? set to "Bootable Add-in Device"
b) ?Bootable Add-in Device? set to ?OnChip SATA RAID?
c) ?First Boot Device? set to ?Floppy?
d) ?Second Boot Device? set to ?CDROM?
e) ?Third Boot Device? set to ?Hard Disk?

At this stage, I?m just grabbing any bios setup advice that might apply such as the above. What I need and want is to be able to somehow access that older drive in this new system so I can get important info from it and then reformat it and use it as a removable backup drive.
