I threw my arm out today after a combination of softball/dodgeball with my friends and took 1000mg (yes, I know its a lot) of ibuprofen in 2 hours... The pain of the arm is gone, and there is a party tonight where I would like to drink some beer...

I'm just wondering if this could be potentially dangerous, with 1000mg of ibuprofen and beer in my system???

Edit: I took the ibuprofen at like 2:30PM, and I plan to start drinking at 11:30 or 12:30 so its close to 9 or 10 hours in between...

yes, your toes and fingers will slowly start to fall off, and then, in an instant you'll be dead....

edit: of course you're not going to die....and 1000mg isn't THAT much.

From personal experience I've never had any effects, ill or otherwise from ibuprofen + alcohol. But I haven't taken 1000mg neither. Probably not a good idea in any case.

because it is 10 hours later, and 1000mg is not THAT much like someone already said, there should not be a problem... but don't sue me if i'm wrong!

blood thinner + beer...hrmmmmm. Just check the bottle on the drugs. If it says anything about alcohol, then dont. If not, then whatever

Do note, I am no expert. PM Mill or one of the paramedics on here, they would probably know more...Dr.Noobie knows as well I am sure.

It's not a problem unless you do it often or have ulcers. Both are gastric irritants, and that can cause problems if taken together. Otherwise relax, and yes I do know what I am talking about.

One time deal is no problem, especially if you're young & have a healthy GI system, however...

If you're doing it routinely: Alcohol and NSAIDs Increase Risk for Upper GI Bleeding
(or if you're older)

The FDA came under considerable pressure till it finally ruled this:
Aspirin, carbaspirin calcium, choline salicylate, ibuprofen, ketoprofen, magnesium salicylate, naproxen sodium and sodium salicylate: "Alcohol Warning: If you consume 3 or more alcoholic drinks every day, ask your doctor whether you should take [ingredient] or other pain relievers/fever reducers. [Ingredient] may cause stomach bleeding."

I've seen young healthy people with horrible GI bleeds just from NSAID's, when you add in alcohol, you're just asking for trouble. These were folks that took NSAID's over an extended time though.

ibuprofen + alcohol = ulcer like problem

acetaminophen + alcohol = major liver damage.

If 9 caffiene pills and 8 beers withing 3 hours didn't kill me, then a few ibuprofen and a beer or two isn't going to kill you.

BTW...DO NOT take that many caffiene pills. That caused some odd effects that I would not like to endure again.

1000mg is not that much. You are allowed 2400mg/day, 600mg/4 hours. That's not enough to worry about and as far as drinking, it's 9-10 hours later...nothing to worry about there either.
