iBook users, question regarding performance?

A friend of mine is looking to get a laptop to use for basic office usage, email, office type stuff, etc etc.
No gaming, etc etc.

So, I adviced her to have a look at an 12" 800 MHz iBook.
Now, there are two potential problems, only 128 MB memory and the 800 MHz G3.
The memory can of course be fixed with a quick and cheap upgrade, using some 3'rd party memory.

The issue I have with the CPU is, will it run OS-X acceptably fast?
Assume I put another 256 megs in there, for a total of 384 mb, would that 800 MHz G3 run OS-X at a good speed?

Thanks beforehand.

Yes, that sounds fine. 384 is a bit low by my standards(I have my 12" PB loaded out at 640), but for most people, that sound be fine. The G3 is a good chip, its only weakness is the lack of AltiVect.

If you put 384 (or more MB) in that machine, it will be ok. Don't expect breakneck performance out of the laptop though.
