iBook and Macromedia Studio MX

I'm currently looking for a small laptop that will allow me to do some web design (Studio MX), as well as allowing me to hook it up to the TV and watch the odd DVD now and then. I know the PowerBook is superior to the iBook, but alas - the price is way out of reach.

Would a iBook G3/800MHz allow me to do this? I know the screen is small, so I might go for the 14" screen. But I just love the size and look of that little thing.

I would appreciate any input you iBook users out there can give me. Thanks.

The iBook 800 is a nice machine, but I dunno how much design work you'd want to do on a 1024x768 and a G3. Can you swing the cost of an 867 TiBook (US$2300)? Or even an older 800 TiBook?

Mind you I'm no designer, so I would suggest you ask somebody on the MacNN.com forums.

By the way, you can hack the firmware on an iBook to span the desktop to an external screen, and the current video cards are more than able to handle that with 32 MB RAM and an ATI 7500. However, with the TiBook you get this feature without a hack, and you get a DVI-I output too.

Thank you both for your replies. If I was serious about web design I would go for a PowerBook (would have to save up, though 😉 ). But I'm just looking for a decent performer that will allow me to use these applications, don't need top notch performance.

Thanks for the tip about MacNN.com - I'll check it out.

well 1024 isn't enough res for me to do my web design work. Especially if you need a few of those options floating around. But it is doable at thatres, if you can tolerate it
