Ibm's different thinkpad T41 models?

T41 models

Can someone explain to me what the Think Express program is? I read somewhere on the net that these models are cheaper somehow than the regular models. Looking at the two cheaper models on this page, though, the one on the left has a larger faster hard drive and seems pretty much the same as the more expensive one, but it costs 300 or 400$ less.

The difference is the warranty. The Express only has 1 year, and the other has 3 years like every other T-series. Longer warranty is not a bad idea when dealing with laptops.

No. The Thinkpad Express models are brand new afaik. The differences to the 2 machines on your linked page is that the express model has a 40gb 5400rpm drive and 1 year warrany, while the other has a 30gb 4200rpm drive and 3 year warranty.

You could try and find two similar equipped models, and then see how much exactly they rate the extended warranty at. Or find out how much an extended warranty costs on the express model.

If it were me, and it actually is (I'm torn between a R40, T41, X31), I would prefer the extended warranty. But then again, if you plan to use it solely in your home 1 year might be enough. But it would be nice to have your system covered for 3 years and have no worries.

Yes, there are models that have 3 year warranties. The reason that the Express models are cheaper is that they are much less configurable, thus IBM can make them in bulk.

I just bought a think express t41, specs here. And if you look at the limited warranty area (at the bottom) it states that I have three years parts and labor.

They both have the same HDD's......40gb...you can't read?? 😉

The cheaper one has 1024x768 display, an ATI-7500 video card and a 1.4ghz cpu. Also a 1 year warranty

The middle has a 1400x1050 display, an ATI-9000 video card and a 1.6ghz cpu. Also a 3 year warranty.

The middle is definately a better deal.
