hi,
I recently bought a 15gb IBM 75GXP, and an ABIT Hot Rod 100 Pro (ATA/100 RAID controller) for my system.
im not running it in RAID mode at the moment BTW.
I've heard in a lot of places this is one of the fastest (IDE) hard disks on the market, yet the performance I am receiving is pretty poor.
I ran SiSoft Sandra Pro's disk benchmarker to prove my point, heres the results...
Drive Index - 8665
Buffered Read - 259MB/s
Sequential Read - 10MB/s
Random Read - 1153kB/s
Buffered Write - 287MB/s
Sequential Write - 20MB/s
Random Write - 8MB/s
Average Access Time - 50ms (ack!!)

I've got my the 75GXP set at UDMA5 in the controller bios, ive made sure that the hard drive actaully IS a 75GXP (checked all model numbers) and that the controller is ATA100.

any help with this would be appreicated
oh yeah, the rest of my system is as follows:
MSI 6163PRO (its BX)
P3 733-EB
128mb 133 ram
Xitel Storm platinum (thats a Vortex 2)
Acer NetCard PCI Fast Ethernet (can go 10mbps as well obviously)

Wouldn't lose any sleep over sandra's results myself, See if you can find anything that helps to measure burst rates. I believe the GXP will burst at 100MBS but only read sequentially/steadily at <50MBS.

yes, HD tachometer measured it accuratly but i still have some concern for sandra results...
its not just the results it gave me, but how my results stacked up against other drives... it measured my drive around 200 points above a 10gb UDMA33
oh well doesnt really matter i suppose

Sandra measures my GXP75 at 19896 on an Asus P2B-F at 366@550Mhz celeron. Did you enable DMA on the harddrive controller?

Also try to connect the GXP on the onboard UDMA/33 controller - I got a performance increase of about 35% using the onboard controller on my mobo rather than the ABIT Hot Rod 66. - That makes one wonder why one ever wasted money on that UDMA/66 card :|

Mday,

I would've gotten a promise controller if not for the fact that it was twice the price...

Are you using the latest drivers for the Abit HPT controller? I noticed a big difference between the orginal .6x and 1.03.
