hello,
i am attempting to work on a ibm thinkpad type 2621 laptop. i have not done much work on laptops, so this is a different ballgame. could someone tell me how that i get the hard drive out of this thing, or know where i could find somewhere online that would show me? i tried ibm website, and all i could come up with on there was the parts lists and location, but that does not really answer my question on getting to it to get it out. thanks for any help in advance and have a great day:confused:

You may try searching google or yahoo using the word "maintenance" or hard drive replacement or something like that along with IBM and the model number. I found all the info for my compaq online. I find stuff like that at work every now and then by just searching. Goodluck..

IBM Website

Page 53 or 116. You didnt specify which model... 2621-??? The ??? is the model number.

I've had to swap a HDD once at work b/c some girl dropped her ThinkPad and killed it while at a client site. On the front of the Thinkpad, look for any removeable pieces of plastic. Its not a switch, its more like a battery cover. If you remove it, you should see some screws. Remove the screws and that should allow you to open a latch outwards and downwards. This should allow you to get to the HDD. The older ThinkPads were a PITA to hotswap parts, the newer ones are much nicer with internal and external HDD bays for easy swapping.

If that's not the case with your ThinkPad, I'm not sure. You may want to try for an answer over in the Small FF/Notebook forum, although I'm not sure how much traffic it gets considering its new.
