I'd actually LOVE to hear some feedback about this piece, because it looks IDENTICAL to the Palm Pilot, except a lot cheaper. Right now, the lowest cycle price is $194.95 but after the $25 rebate from visa, you get it for $169.95. Here's the link: http://www.mobshop.com/cycles?cycle_id=300212

Is this worth getting?
Alex
PS. Mobshop has free shipping to the US too.

*sigh*

I don't know if it was an AnAndTech problem or not, but it didn't seem like it was connecting at all..and..well, you know the rest

Would be nice if they could code these forums so it wouldn't let you say the same thing twice..but, oh well.

Sorry Alex!

Yeah, I saw that at techbargains a few days ago. It's supposed to be the same thing as the Palm IIIx (4mb). I tried looking up reviews of it, but could hardly turn up anything. I know there are companies that make memory upgrades for the 30x, so it would seem like the Palm IIIx it can also be upgraded..yet on some pages on other sites it says "Max Ram: 4mb" or something of that nature.

Anyway, from what I did find out searching, it's basically a repackaged Palm IIIx in a black case. Not too bad of a price, but it's not a steal either..especially since you have to wait for the rebate. And I'd say even though the msrp is $229.95, it's worth about $200 or so new, considering you could get the 8mb Palm for $249.

I haven't yet decided whether to go with it or to go for an 8mb Palm model. Might depend if I can get an instant rebate online for an 8mb that'll take the cost down from $249.

Well, I decided to get in on this model. I currently have the IIIe from the RedGorilla deal, but I really wanted something that would be upgradeable and give me some flexiblity. I looked and looked (prob been a week straight) to see if I could find any kind of deal on a IIIxe, but any that might have been deals (like a staples $40 off coupon) were out of stock, and most were out of stock regardless.

I was able to find a little more out on this model..the only thing I really wasn't sure about is what the flip cover was like (if it was like the Palm models). Anything I did find out about the Workpad 30x said that it was "exactly like the IIIx, but with IBM's name slapped on it and a black case." I checked into most of the other stuff..I believe it does have the memory expansion slot, as the IIIx did. It works with most stuff that works with the IIIx as well..maybe all of it, not sure. Could very well be the same exact thing with a different case.

I might have decided against it if Mobshop didn't have the $25 off Visa promotion. To tell the truth, I really had a hard time deciding to go with it..just b/c I knew I wanted something better than the IIIe, but didn't know how much I wanted to shell out for something I wasn't totally sure wouldn't get broken.

Something else that kindof made the decision easier was realizing that next year I could end up upgrading again to a PDA that has a new Palm OS on it (if they redo their OS) or one that supports Linux. So, I figured, why spend the extra money now if I'm only going to be upgrading anyway..4mb is enough for me to do most things, and I have room to expand if I *really really* need to.

Anyway, just figured I'd bring this up to the top again if anyone else was interested in getting in on it. It's at it's lowest price now, and if you order with a Visa, you'll be able to get a $25 rebate as well (see techbargains[dot]com for that).
