HD IBM Deskstar 75GXP 20GB DMA-100 vs HD Maxtor Diamond MaxPlus40 20,4GB DMA-100.

Wich one is best? Temperature, noise, speed?

I've never used the Maxtor in question, but I have an IBM 75GXP 30G drive, and I works better than any other drive I've ever owned... I have a couple of WD 7200 RPM drives, and there ok, but nothing close to the IBM drive.

I have always liked Maxtor drives, and I have the Diamond Max+ 40.

I think that the IBM is now faster in performace benchmarks.

With reference to noise, the Maxtor is very quiet.

If they're the same price, I'd lean toward the IBM (latest technology). If not, go for what's cheapest, as they're both great drives, according to SR.

Most reliable is the IBM. And that comes from personal experience.
AVIOD QUANTUM! THEY´re EVIL!
But seriously, IBM is the better drive. The Maxtor could be more silent bescause the new Maxtor´s have that silent feature(the 5400rpm ones). But IBM drives arent´t that loud either. (Well, ATAPI Drives..)

I have no experience with the new highly rated IBM 75GB hard drive but the reviews seem to rave about it. Unless you absolutely NEED that storage it's much more cost effective to buy the Maxtor 40GB 7200 RPM DiamondMax 40. Using a Staples.com $40 off $150 or $40 off $200 coupon you can purchase this hard drive for $209 with free shipping. Since coupon codes are not allowed here or in the Hot Deals forum click my e-mail link below and type Staples coupon in the subject line and I'll send them to you.
