ibm travelstar drive makes lots of noise, rattles, clicks etc.

anyone else experience this? I've done the SMART tests and everything says the drive works fine. Nothing crashes but the noise is terrible.

I just had a Travelstar replaced because it was defective. It also made this loud motor spinning noise constantly. I don't think S.M.A.R.T. will detect it - go to IBM's site and download Drive Fitness Test, and run the Quick Test. It should tell you whether the drive is good or not.

thx. I tried the drive fitness tool and did the quick test and everything was fine according to it. I thought I was in G. hardware but accidently posted it in OT. Oh well.

my lappy was doing that too, took forever to transfer any data.....
replaced the hdd and everything is great.
