IBM Thinkpad without battery

I have an IBM Thinkpad 600E and the battery doesn't work anymore, and I would like to know if there is any way to make it work without the battery on (becouse when I try to power the notebook on without the battery it doesn't wort), only with AC adapter.
Maybe there is an option on the bios or somethig, thanks.

Also, my experience with Thinkpad BIOS flashes is that
they require you to have a battery in place when flashing, even
if you also have AC power. I am not sure if a dead but recognized
battery would be sufficient, or if the capacity of the battery
is also tested.

That´s true, and I've been doing it by connecting the pins where the battery makes contact on the laptop with an AC adapter, just to boot it up and once it has booted I disconnect it and let it work with the AC adapter plugged in the back of the computer.
I coul try to make some changes to the bios this way. Thanks
