i just got a x21 with an x2 ultrabase - cdrom and floppy

the laptop has no OS on it so I thought I could attach it to the ultrabase and boot from a cd

but the cdrom drive wont open and the led doesnt flash or anything

Is the ultrabase broken or am I missing something?

thanks,
Jeff

I cannot speak with certainty of your model; but with the ones that I've used, you have to plug the power adapter into the ultrabase, which powers itself and the connected laptop. Hopefully that'll fix your problem.

get a usb cdrom, you can boot from there. i installed a winxp on my x30 before, usb1.0 wasn't as bad as i thought.

Phisrow is correct. You need to plug the power adapter into the ultrabase. The laptop will still draw power through there if that's what your concern is.
