Could someone please explain the difference between these two model numbers to me. I am able to find T42's on IBM's regular site, and T41's on their educational discount site... they seem to have similar specs... I'm not sure what the difference is. Is the T41 an older model, hence the lower number? Are the chassis the same?

Also, is this a good deal? T41 INTEL PENTIUM M 1.6 14.1" XGA 512MB 40GB DVD-CDRW XP PRO -- $1609

Thank you.

T41 = 14" TFT only.
T42 = !4 or 15" TFT.. though the 15" is actually a bigger chassis than the 14".

T41 = Banias Pentium M
T42 = Banias and Dothan Pentium M

So.. the T41 is an older model but is still very relevant.

The T41 comes in only a 14" chassis, where as the T42 comes in a 14" or 15" chassis.... Note that it's the difference in chassis even between the T42 screen sizes and not just using more monitor bezel on the 14" models when not ordered with the 15". THe 14" and 15" are truly different chassis.

Seems like a good deal.

WackyDan is entirely correct. As for a good value, it seems like one. You are spending a good chunk of money on a slightly "older" model. For comparison, here is what I just got from my university's bookstore:
IBM T42
15" SXGA+
1.7Ghz Dothan
512MB
40GB 5400RPM
Radeon 9600 64MB
A/B/G Wireless
$1800

darn... I'm getting a new T41p at work next week, and IT said we pay IBM a 'corporate' rate of 270 swiss francs, which is about 2200 US!
it comes with a M1.7 and 60GB, so your deal sounds plenty good to me
