well for all of you praising the thinkpads i got a new 1.6ghz centrino in front of me. network card burned down.

for 2100$ youd think everything would run normal for a month or two.

Good thing you have IBM's legendary support behind you. You are not going to find their kind of support with many other makes.

Give them a call, and they will next-day Fed-ex a pre-paid box to you, which you pack your Thinkpad and ship back to them. Few days later IBM will Fed-ex the fixed machine back to you, all at no additional cost to you (you already paid for the support at purchase).

In the past when I had accidents with my Thinkpads (such as accidental drops), IBM always took good care of me. For that reason I'll never buy another brand of laptop unless Lenovo turns the company to sh*t.

Amen brother! IBM owns the laptop world. Now if only they would make a gamer laptop. :)

Which card do you all use? The Intel Pro2x00 (which you can tell by the Centrino kite sticker on the handrest) or the IBM one (no Centrino sticker)?

Ouch. Glad I dodged that bullet... My T41 uses the IBM 802.11b/g miniPCI card, not the Intel Centrino one. And the IBM card has been rock-solid.

Did you get IBM to fix it for you?

Not mine, its one that I set up and help the user run though. Service may happen soon, but I want to rule out the possibility that the user is screwing it up.

One of my buddies had a shot graphics card on his t42p after a couple months. they sent a technician to his house on the first business day after he called them....the guy showed up with a new mobo and fixed it in a couple hours. IBM rules, fingers crossed on the lenovo transition.

Hello????
I do not need good tech support!
In a bus environment you need machines that work.

You know what would happen at our company in this case?
Call IBM give back machine ... go to store and have a new laptop same day

That's your choice and we can respect that.

For my business however, I prefer a company that will fix what is broke, accidentally or not, right away no questions asked. Good luck finding some other laptop maker who will do that for you.

All of our laptop are IBMs. I have seen some of my users that have totally trashed their thinkpads, some with screens literally hanging by a thread and you know what? They still work and are functuinal even with shattered casings, broken plastic everywhere. Thinkpads are without a dont the best LT you can get, from the cost conscious R series to the latest T series, they are all good. I even have an old 760 that is still serving me as a print server and it has been on for over 8 years!

My thinkpad got wrecked somehow; the LCD backlight was broken (too bright at the bottom), dvd drive was trashed, hard drive acted weird, etc. and they gave me great support.

Problem is I had a freezing problem with the laptop, and they haven't been able to fix it. I've had it sent to them THREE times. One time they fvcked up and said that I told them not to format the hard drive; I got the machine back with the same paper I send giving my consent to format the drive. ...

Oh well, the processor I'm pretty sure is the problem. They have given me extremely fast turnaround time and great support, even though I've had a TON of problems with my thinkpad (T23) I would still buy another IBM simply for that reason. I just wish their warranty covered REPLACEMENT of the laptop. Apparently I can have them spend ungodly amounts of money swapping components and paying for 1 day shipping, but they can't spend the money to give me a new T23 :p. Oh well!
