IBM Thinkpad T40 KEYS/ KEYBOARD

My dog accidentally stepped on my thinkpad keyboard, long story short, it broke several keys off. Two of them I could easy put back into place. One however, the plastic part underneath the key broke. IS there anywhere I can replace this or get a new key? I don't want to shell out $50 for a totally new keyboard for a small part that cost next to nothing.

fiasco: Did you ever give IBM or a call or figure out another solution to your problem? I basically have the exact same issue here with my X40!!

Thanks!

I had broken the delete key on my old IBM laptop. I sent it in for something else, and when it came back, they had replaced the key.

I'm not underwarranty I called customer service and they don't replace or sell individual keys. They do the whole thing. Ridiculous, considering it is just a small plastic piece broken off the key c-clip thingy. I guess ebay is the only option.

That little piece of plastic was attached to the entire keyboard. You can't replace a little tab of plastic that snapped off of the entire base of the keyboard. eBay or IBM, either way you have to replace the keyboard.

**Pats my T42 with 3 years of warranty with accidental damage coverage** 😛

fbrdphreak,

The part I am talking about isn't "attached" to the keyboard. Basically it is the part that gives the "springy" or responsiveness of the key. If you would like me to take a picture of it I would be glad to.

Edit: Chrisl01, If your notebook is still under warranty take it to an authorized IBM repair center which are listed on the IBM site (you got to search for it) and they will do the repairs for free.
