I am going to buy IBM R40:

ThinkPad R40 46U with Carrying Case
Celeron processor - 1800MHz-M'
256M
20G
CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo IV 24X/10X/24X/8X Max
ATI mobility 16M
14" XGA
for CAD$1399 = USD $932

ThinkPad R40 CEU with Carrying Case
Intel P4- 1800MHz-M
256M
20G
CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo IV 24X/10X/24X/8X Max
ATI mobility 16M
14" XGA
for CAD$1599 = USD $1066

1: is it worth to upgrade from Celeron 1.8G-M tp P4 1.8G for the extra CAD$200 = USD$133?
2: is it worth to upgrade to 512M RAM for additional CAD$80 = USD$53.3?
3: are there any other options I should consider?

upgrade HD is too expensive, (actually it is not upgrade, it is 2nd HD: 40G for CAD$509 = USD $339, I think not worth it.
too bad, I cannot screen (to XGA+ or higher)

Thanks

Yes P4M is a lot more powerful.
But now we can choose a new CPU-- Pentium M.It provides a faster running, longer battery life and slimmer case.

And the more ram you get the fast the laptop run, especilly when running some big softwares like Photoshop. So get more.

So do you guys think CAD $80 (USD $53) for 256M DDR worth the money or I can buy this cheaper from crucial or other place?
BTW, how do you guys think about the price? Is it good?

1. definitely
2. you can probably get it cheaper at some place like crucial
3. it's a good choice, especially for the price. you might want to look at the Inspiron 600m Centrino laptop, but i just like the build quality and feel of IBM notebooks.

I need to buy a wireless pc card/card bus for it. Here in Canada, I can buy a 11M SMC PC Card for CAD$50 (USD $33) or 22M SMC Cardbus CAD $55 AR (USD $35), so my question is, is this R40 supports Cardbus? if it doesn't can I use the Cardbus in the PC Card slot?
Thanks
