fyi, my friend bought one of these and it didn't come w/ a floppy drive. If you want floppy, you have to buy an external usb version for about $90. It was kinda annoying trying to add drivers w/o floppy.

I am assuming that the laptop come w/ a modem here.
It's worth it more to upgrade to get a modem more than to get a floppy.

That's a good idea. However, for people who travel, or have no internet access on teh road, plane, etc. a floppy will come in handy.

I need a laptop and has been thinking about if I should get a cheap IBM with TFT screen but no floppy, or get other brand, more heavy one with floppy.

vegasbaby? Are you kidding about Insight? They have been around for a long time. I used to purchase from them in Computer Shopper when hard drives cost more than a dollar a meg. They also sponsor the Insight.com football bowl. A very legitimate company.

vegasbabyy - I've bought a UMAX Astra 2010U scanner for $10 after rebate from Insight.com before but that's all. They're reputable I guess but the shipping was like $7.50 for the scanner but I guess who cares with a $10 scanner.

Hey guys,
Just remember, with an HPA Screen you can never have video or motion graphics because you will get a ghosting effect.

IMHO, Avoid HPA Like the plague. At least go look at one in store before you order one off the net.

I feel the lack of floppy drive is a major killer here. Yes you can email small files to yourself but it won't get you a boot disk when you accidently catch a virus at the beginning of a one month trip. Or need to backup your documents every once in a while. And a USB floppy isn't accessible on from DOS. Just wanted to bring this up. But it is a wamr deal for a laptop with these specs.
Note: The majority of the hotels I've stayed in over the last five years (approximately 25 months worth of hotel stays) only nets you an average connection speed of 28K. And depending on where you are at, no local number.
