I have a used IBM Thinkpad 600E (400mhz, 192mb, 10gig, 13.3tft). It had no OS when I received it, so I installed Win98SE. Works alright, installed the Neomagic video card drivers, audio, etc. from IBM's site.

The problem is, the screen still looks kinda crappy. The text isn't real sharp, and looks like there are sort of lines going through it. To me, it looks like the a driver is wrong, or something isn't set up right. It looks kind of like when you first set up Windows, but not quite that bad.

I have it running in 800x600x16bit color, and using the Win98 driver for "Laptop Screen, 800x600". Is there a better driver built into windows, or one downloadable somewhere?

Thanks!

Change the resolution to 1024x768 (native resolution). The TFT on the ThinkPads 600s look awful in 800x600.

Yes, Windogg is right. With a TFT you have to run the native resolution. Any other resolution and it will look like crap. Most of the time with a 13" TFT, the resolution is either 1024x768 or else 800x600.

Thanks for the suggestions, y'all! I'll tinker when I get home, and post back with results.

So, the first thing I tried was the easiest, changing the resolution to 10x7. Fixed it right up!
