IBM T41 + Dell 2001FP problem

I just got my dell 2001FP monitor (that came with a dead pixel 🙁 ) and planned to use this as my external monitor for my IBM T41 laptop. When I do this there is a noticeable blur.. the kind of blur I think is called a motion blur. It seems like there is a very transparent ghost duplication to the right of the things displayed on the monitor. I also tried it on an HP laptop and the motion blur occurs. So, is it that the laptops can't handle this monitor? Or can I fix this problem by getting an s-video cable? Thanks.

By no means am I an expert, but I think ghosting may be from a bad cable. So I'd probably make sure I'm using a good one, and no longer than you need it to be.

I just went here: http://www.monitorsdirect.com/toolkit/index.shtml

and did the calibrator. It said that ghosting can be caused by a poor graphics card or poor video amp on the monitor. The specs on my IBM laptop it said that the external display can be up to 2048 x 1536 resolution. It's at 1600x1200 now. I really wish there is a way to fix this. Thanks for your reply though.
