I am looking very seriously at the T40 (maybe P). I am a student in a multimedia program and I want to get a notebook that will be able handle some workstation type applications. What other's experinces have been in regards to running video editing apps or photoshop? I actually have an Apple G4 that I run FCP on but, if I needed to, I would like to run Premiere Pro/After Effects on a portable and possibly 3D studio.

Also, what kind of game performance have you seen? I am sure that games like Age of Kings or Gallactic Battlegrounds would work fine but, how about UT2K3?

Thanks

I'm a big Thinkpad fan (I don't buy anything else), but if games is what you are after, don't even consider any Thinkpad.
That's not what they are made for, and they are not good at.

The T40p has a R9000GL with 128bit bus whereas the T40 with R9000 has 64bit bus.

not a biggie, but if you really want to play games, should squeeze every bit out of technology.

Thats a very good price, thats less than I paid and I got a great deal
(Just configured the one I purchased thru he stockholder discount) on IBM and it's at about $3300 plus tax.
So at $2100 thats great

Thanks folks. my primary purpose for it is not games but, if I get board between classes and want to relax a bit, a game or two might be fun. My primary purpose for it would be some media work(Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Premiere, etc) and basic communications.

What I like about the T40 is the form factor, weight, and sturdyness. I also like the idea of the thinklight but, that's a bonus. I just know that I want a fast, reliable laptop that does not get in the way. It seems to fit that bill.
