Hello,

This is my first post on this forum and I look forward to be a part of cybertech help community. I currently have an IBM T40 that is stuck on the bootup screen . . . . it will not load the resources CD/Windows XP CD. After it loads the bios it will get stuck in a screen with a "_" blinking and does not move on from there. The lappy is out of warranty, so I am kind of stuck in a box here. If you folks have any input on how I can go about getting this problem resolved, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!!

It sounds as though your machine is trying to boot from the HDD and is not able to do so. For some reason, it may not be automatically trying to boot from the CD. First of course verify your CD works in another machine. With it in your optical drive, turn the machine on and press the F1 key, I believe that will take you to the BIOS in that model. From there see if you can find an option to force checking optical as a boot device first.

Also search through http://forum.thinkpads.com, great ThinkPad resource.
