IBM has announced that China's Lenovo Group Ltd. will buy and control IBM's PC making business for $1.25 Billion. IBM pioneered the PC business 23 years ago and leaves as it views profit margins too narrow to be worth pursuing any longer. Lenovo will take control of the IBM PC business in the 2nd Quarter of 2005.

this hurts, bad... my work is leaving IBM and switching to HP 🙁

That's not too bad. The HP/Compaq business lineup is actually decent. I love my NC8000 laptop, and it's comparable to any IBM Thinkpad. Although IBM leaving the PC world is kinda depressing. I'll miss them...

Maybe we'll finally stop seeing "___MHz IBM-Compatible PC" show up in the System Requirements of software and idiot professor's pages worldwide.
