IBM or Maxtor?

I hear alot of stuff about how great the IBM's are, then people bash them and say maxtor are just as good. I have some old 5400RMP HD's in my comp now, that are showing there age and was thinking of upgrading to some 7200's. Should I get an IBM 75GXP or a Maxtor? Or maybe a Seagate Barracuda ATAIII? I think thats the one. Also I need a good place to buy one online.

Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

End of discussion? Yea right.

The Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 60 is currently the best 20GB platter hard drive in the market, it comes in cheaper than IBM and neck and neck in performance. I highly recommend the Maxtor. Forget about CudaIII, that thing sucked.

I`ll make this hard, IBM in first place but Maxtor very close behind ,both are good drives,so it could be down to price.
🙂

I really think that at this point you have 2 choices in hdds IBM or Maxtor either will do you just fine. IBM is perhaps a little bit faster but I don't think that you would ever notice the difference in the 2.

Jeez. You might as well ask if they prefer intel or AMD cpu's. And boxers or Briefs...

There is no definate answer, ppl are merely gonna go for their preference and bash all others. You gotta look at the facts. Storage Review has some good reviews. Now YOU have to take those unbiased reviews and develop your own bias, and get your own drive. So when the next guy asks the same quesiton, you can root for the drive you own, and bash all others, like everyone else in the forum.

Oh yea, stay away from the briefs. They're proven to decrease sperm-counts.

Isn't one quieter than the other? I heard the IBM's are nice and quiet. Is the maxtor much louder?

BTW I wish I could get this many replies on my other post 🙂 Everyone go to the Video Forum and please reply to my post 🙂

No, the maxtor's are quiet as hell. Or is it heaven?

They seek quieter than the IBM's actually, with the acoustic management on. But you'll no doubt turn that $hit off for the extra performance.

"The Deskstar 75GXP is no exception, turning in muted performance reminiscent of the Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 40." - Storagereview

Should give you a idea of how quiet the Maxtors are.

Yawn. Looks like there ain't nobody smart enuf to prove that "IBM is the best hands down". Just a buncha biased IBM lovers. We need some anti-maxtor/smart-ass GX guyz in here.

Ok, thanks for all your suggestions here. END OF DISCUSSION 🙂

But I still need some help on my thread in the Video Forum!!
