Good Morning,

I am considering buying the new IBM netvista x40i to use as a network computer. This will not be my main pc, but rather a "kitchen" pc hooked to my home network. Does anyone have any experience with this pc, specifically the video. How good is it? I will mostly use this for browsing the web and e-mail. Are there any units out there that are better suited ofr this purpose? Money is not a real concern, usability is my primary goal.

many thanks,

it may not be fair to comment as i just purchased the netvista x40i (dvd, 600mhz, 15Gb, 128Mb) and am still in the honeymoon phase. Overall i'm quite pleased. if i were a gamer i'd be concerned about the lack of a solid sound and video card. i've hooked up a pair of monsoon 700's which go well with the machine's flat-panel profile and provide superior stereo sound. the sis video seems fine for dvd, basic gaming and internet browsing. there is 1 free pci slot, the second is occupied by a modem which i don't need, so i could conceivably upgrade but the slots only accomodate what ibm calls a "low-profile" card. i've not found anything that would fit, although i've not really put much effort to this. bottom line...it's a beautiful machine.
